FAQ

So how do your photography sessions work?

A.In our session I will take a BUNCH of pictures, including ones that show your children’s face and let their little personality shine through. These will be provided to you, and you can print or share them as you wish – trust me, they will be too cute not too!
I then may decide to share a picture from our session that is creatively faceless (in other words, it does not identify your children) on my platform, to showcase my work, demonstrate new ways to take photos and to do my part in minimizing the culture of sharenting. If you want to know more about this navigate to the "Why Hire Me" page.

What is the best time of day for the shoot?

A.There are two main things to take into account. Firstly, when your children are likely to be happiest – the most important thing for me is that everyone is enjoying themselves, so this is a major consideration. Secondly, when the light is going to be at its best. Depending on the time of year, this can often be later in the day – imagine soft evening sunlight. However, I have a secret spot that works well in the mornings too. Bright summer sun in the middle of the day is not very flattering - but I have still shoot beautiful pictures on a cloudy day at noon!

So, as you can see, there are many factors to consider....so I’ll always chat to you about when would suit your family best and try be as accommodating as I can.

What if it rains?

A.I’ll always get in touch with you a few days before your session to run through details. This is also a good time to check the forecast. If the weather is looking miserable then I’m always happy to rearrange the session. The weather can make a huge difference to the photographs, so I’d usually recommend waiting for a better day. Or if you like we can look at doing an indoor option (in my set up, indoor works well for up 4 people). But either way, we will find a solution!

How should we dress for our family session?

A.Relaxed and casual clothing like jeans and a t-shirt or light shirt/blouse or a floaty dress work particularly well for in-home and outdoor family sessions.
As for colours, ahead of our shoot we will decide on location and once that is locked, in I will send through an ideal colour palette with 5-10 colours that will work best. But creams and greys always work well when you are in doubt!

What should we bring to the session?

A.It depends on the age of your children and where we are. But it’s generally a good idea to pack up a big bag with drinks, snacks, wipes, and spare clothes. It can also be fun to have some sort of activity to do, but we can chat this through ahead of the session.

What’s the best time to have a session with a newborn?

A.Newborn photos are best taken 7-10 days after birth, while your little angel is still tiny and spends a lot of time sleeping. However, baby photos are beautiful ALL THE TIME. The next stage when I would say you have a good chance at photos would be around 12 weeks mark, when babies roll on their tummies. If you are after more lifestyle natural baby photography then you want to book in at the 6-12 month stage. And after that you can take really fun cake smash photos! So, in other words, babies photograph beautifully no matter the age.

I like the idea of an outdoor photoshoot but am worried about how that is going to work with my baby logistically?

A.Lucky I have 4 ah-mazing outdoor photoshoot spots onsite, which gives you access to all the amenities your heart desires - including a fridge, microwave, change table etc.

I want a big shoot. Think extend family or intergenerational....can this be done?

A.An extended family photography session is the perfect way to celebrate your whole family. A chance to create images with the grandparents, adult siblings and their children. For the best results we need to agree to a good location and plan outfits enough so things look cohesive. On the day, I will shoot a bunch of relaxed group pictures, as well as take some smaller group photos of each individual family. It’s usually really lovely to include some other variations to suit your family. This might be grandparents with their grandchildren, sibling groups, or all the cousins together. I’ll always have a chat with you before your session to tailor things to suit your family. This is a big day out - so send me an email with the specifics and I'll organise a quote!
